The Department of Labor Insurance states that according to the Old-Age Peasants’ Welfare Allowance Program, the allowance should be credited on the 20th of the following month. For example, allowance for December, 2005 should be credited in January, 2006; and allowance for January, 2006 should be credited in February, 2006. However, because the Old-Age Peasants’ Welfare allowance was adjusted to 5,000 dollars from January, 2006, in order to meet the demand for the Chinese New Year, the allowance of 5,000 dollars for January, 2006 will be credited in advance on the 27th of January, 2006 before the Chinese New Year; and the original allowance amount of 4,000 dollars for December, 2005 will also be credited in advance on the 16th of January, 2006, which makes the credit in January, 2006 a total of 9,000 dollars. This is a friendly gesture from the government in order that the elderly workers can enjoy the Chinese New Year.

Because the allowance for January, 2006 will have been credited on the 27th of January, 2006, the allowance will not be credited again on the 20th of February, 2006 for the existing allowance beneficiaries. However, the new beneficiaries who apply for the allowance from January, 2006 will still receive the allowance on the following month.
