To alleviate the burden of unemployed workers and ensure that they could concentrate on finding employment, the CLA started on Feb. 18, 2013 to accept the application for tuition subsidies for children of unemployed workers for the second semester of the 2012 school year. The application deadline will be Mar. 31, 2013 (determined by the postmark date).

The CLA accepts the application for tuition subsidies for children of unemployed workers each semester. Workers who have been involuntarily separated from employment for more than one month and received unemployment benefits for more than one month, whose combined income with their spouses in 2011 was less than NT$1.14 million, and who have not filed the claim for old-age benefits or participated in any employment promotion program may apply to the CLA for subsidies for the tuitions of their children attending senior or vocational high school or university.

The amount of subsidy varies with the school level: NT$3,000 for each child attending a public senior or vocational high school, NT$5,000 for each child attending a private senior or vocational high school or public university, and NT$10,000 for each child attending a private university. For those who are the sole provider for the household (being a divorcee or widower/widow, or having a spouse with disability or illness too critical to work, etc.) or those with two or more children receiving college education, an extra 20% of subsidy is added.

Starting on Feb. 18, 2013, unemployed workers meeting the requirements could visit the local government, employment service center (station), the Bureau of Labor Insurance or any of its branch offices, or the Labor Counseling Service Center of the CLA to pick up the application form, or download it from the CLA website at www.cla.gov.tw or the hilearning e-net at cla.helearning.hinet.net, or call the CLA’s toll-free number 0800-085151 for needed information.
