| In the morning of Nov. 17th, 2006, a worker at the R.M.C factory in the Taishang Township of Taipei County was rolled into a mixer causing his death, for which the Ministry of Labor issued consolation money of NT 100 thousand dollars and commanded the North Labor Inspection Institute to hold an occupational disaster inspection. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Labor, there have been 58 significant occupational disasters occurring in the R.M.C. industry in the last 5 years, a higher rate compared with other industries.In order to prevent similar misfortunes, the Ministry of Labor states that the special project group organized in recent months will hold inspections at all relevant industries around the country and focus on whether mechanical equipment, concrete mixer cleaning processes, and aggregate storage cleaning processes. Inspections will ensure the industry has adequate disaster prevention plans to establish safety measures,, such as start up and shut down processes for attached equipment, labeling and lock up to avoid operational mistakes. Business operators disobeying these measures will be punished. The Ministry of Labor is considering cooperation with the Ready Mixed Concrete Industry Association to press for occupational disaster sample collection, process health and management education for on spot supervisors. The standard operation process of critical dangerous processing for business operators will be provided to assist industries and to promote health and safety management capacity. All industries shall follow regulations to fulfill necessary safety measures, such as locking of attached equipment including the concrete mixer, husk kernel wet separator, mixed concrete truck slotting process, and enhancement of safety and internal control. All employees shall completely abide by the safety processes in operations and workers in slot shall keep keys for equipment to avoid mistakes of others to start equipment. |
